We Have Frogs

The frogs are back! Last year I went out to feed the birds one morning and heard croaking coming from the pond. Going over to investigate revealed several frogs which all ducked away when they saw me. I was thrilled to see the wildlife in the pond.

Over the next week loads more frogs appeared, and then the water started to fill up with spawn. I was excited for baby frogs and judging by the amount of tadpoles the garden would be a hopping mass before long. Sadly, last year, we went away for a few days and the pond dried out and all the tadpoles perished. It was a sad day. Over the summer Michal enlarged the pond, added a proper liner to keep the water in and added pond plants.
Luckily the pond is now retaining the water much better and the frogs have returned to lay more frog spawn this year. They seemed to hatch quicker this year, perhaps due to the warmer weather and they gradually grew in size over several months. Finally in mid-June I spotted a tiny frog hiding in the border round the pond. Over the next few weeks they finally transitioned to fully formed frogs and disappeared until next year.
