In October Kathryn said she had seen a job as a lifeguard advertised at Portavadie - a posh marina, sports club and spa about 30 minutes drive from my house. She had loved the area on each of her visits and decided now was the time to change her life and see what a new venture would bring. She passed the interview and her training and moved up here three weeks later.
This opens up new things for me as she is up for anything and on her days off she will be looking for things to do, so I won't have to go to things alone. So, this month I finally got to try out Portavadie spa, and what a treat it was! Indoor and outdoor pools, three jacuzzis and a sauna, all heated, meant that even on a cold day we could swim in the infinity pool and drink in the fresh air and beautiful views across to Tarbert.
We are still going out on the skiff every Saturday if the weather is good enough, and this weekend was a spectacular morning - sunshine and mist hanging over the browns and oranges of the autumn flora made for breathtaking views on a perfectly still morning, with good company and tea and cakes as always.
Kathryn was also keen to try out the Scottish Country dancing class. It only runs through the winter months as something to do on a cold wet night. We had turned up for it once before but during the summer when it wasn't on. We tried again and were not disappointed. It was lots of fun, fairly relaxed and yet another lovely group of friendly and welcoming people. Although, as with all the other groups I go to, it was 90% women and about 70% over 60 years of age! But they have energy and zest and were so lovely. There were several other people I recoginsed and so I'm in good company even if Kathryn can't make it. We had a really fun evening and will be back whenever we can.

There was also a Chirstmas market on in Dunoon, along with reindeers, Santa's grotto and the light switch on (which I didn't stay for as I was off to the cinema instead). There was a nice range of stalls selling handmade and interesting things. Nice to walk around and pick up a few gifts. Heather was also singing in the choir somewhere but I didn't see her - hopefully she was somewhere inside in the warmth!
