Guest post by Liz's sister

Jess sent me this beautiful message to read out to John, which I think sums him up so succinctly and shows just how much he lives in the heart of those who knew him ... and perhaps even some who did not.

Dear John,

My Yorkshire brother from another mother... You've been so unbelievably brave over this last year. I've been quietly humbled by your sheer determination, strength & fight. No one could have fought any harder.

Thank you for being a part of our family for the last 25 years. I know we haven't always seen eye to eye but my love & respect for the man you are has never changed.: thoroughly decent, intelligent, funny, giving, kind & hard working.

Thank you for being a part of Liz's life, for loving her so much & making her dreams come true. I was only saying to her the other week that out of everyone I knew, you are one of the few couples that have stayed together through this rollercoaster of life. That's something to be immensly proud of & your love for each other has been clear to see over the years.

Thank you for being a brilliant dad to your gorgeous girls. They are a joy to be around & I'm so proud to be their Auntie.

You don't have to worry or fight anymore John, please rest now. You have done everything to make sure that everyone else is OK & now it's your turn for some peace.

You are so loved by all those whose lives you have touched. You will forever be in our hearts & whenever life gets tough, we'll hear your voice telling us to "crack on". We will make every day count because of you.

Don't worry about anything, I promise Liz & the kids will be OK. We're here for you all.

With much love & respect always, your Lil Yorkshire sis from another mother.  xx
